Did you know that there are over 9000 visible stars in our night sky but this is a tiny proportion of the estimated 200 – 400 billion that make up the Milky Way? Light pollution in our cities means we rarely see more than a small fraction of our celestial neighbours, but that’s where Science Oxford can help. In our inflatable planetarium you can see the night sky as it really is.

We’ll show you how to navigate the stars, demonstrate how the movement of the Earth creates night and day and how the sky changes through the seasons. We’ll hear some of the stories our ancestors told about the cosmos and how these relate to what we know today.
