Saturday Clubs Back with a Splash

Our popular Saturday Clubs for kids aged 5-17 are back with a colourful splash this January. From Pop-Up Coding to Kite Design, we’ve got a fantastic programme of workshops running all the way through to Easter. Located in Oxford and Abingdon, there’s something for every budding scientist, engineer or computer coder, but places are filling up already, so don’t delay booking here!
So what’s new?
First off, we are looking forward to welcoming Jennifer Baker-Jones our new Clubs Officer, to the team next month. She’ll join Sarah Townsend as one of our super-talented Saturday Club workshop creators and deliverers.
Our Bicester clubs are on hold at the moment, but there’s some fabulous new activities in the pipeline for Oxford and Abingdon. Our Science Club ‘Light Fantastic’ in Oxford on 2nd Feb is Sold Out but there are still places at the Abingdon workshop on 9th Feb, where we’ll be bending light and making rainbows with handmade spectroscopes to take home.
Our Maker Club format is changing slightly. Maker Club Juniors (ages 9-12) is becoming one big session (rather than two smaller ones.) The version for 12-17s will run on Saturday afternoons from 1-4PM. The Maker Club concept stays the same though – young makers can work on set projects or their own projects, helped along by our skilled staff and using the equipment in our makerspace e.g. 3D printers to laser cutters to create their own tech masterpieces.
Creative Computing Club, where young coders get creative with programming anything from games to Chinese New Year electronic fireworks, is now focused on ages 9-12 – and look out for special stand-alone coding workshops, such as Ready To Roll during Half Term, where we’ll be calling on Lady Luck and programming electronic die.
And if you just can’t wait till the next club, how about trying one of our Top Five Saturday Club inspired activities at home? We’ve been having a great time in the Science Oxford office testing out all the instructions. Sophie, our Education Outreach Manager, bravely volunteered to make some delicious edible ‘giraffe poo’. Why not try some!
