As part of Dementia Awareness Week 15th-21st May 2017 Oxford researchers, scientists and health experts will be part of an event on living well, ageing and dementia in Templars Square Shopping Centre, OX4 called Ageing: From Birth and Beyond.

Song writing for people with dementia and their carers, this taster session is aimed at anyone interested in finding out more.

Turtle Song is a singing and song-writing initiative for people with memory problems and all forms of dementia and for their carers. It gathers together professional musicians, workshop leaders and music students to deliver a high quality, challenging and enjoyable experience. It is a collaboration between Turtle Key Arts, English Touring Opera and the Royal College of Music.

Charlotte Cunningham, Director of Turtle Key Arts (TKA), composer Jon Petter and director Carolyn von Stumm will offer an interactive workshop demonstrating TKA’s unique approach to unlocking the creativity of people with dementia and their carers using activities developed as part of their Turtle Song programme.

This workshop will be of interest to people with dementia, carers, professionals from arts venues, the NHS, local councils, and the voluntary sector in addition to care providers and indeed anyone who wants to learn about engaging people with dementia through music/musical composition in a way that is fun and enjoyable.

**Please note there is NO LIFT, so this workshops are aimed at carers and people who want to better understand dementia and ageing as a taster session for activities suitable for older people. We would be delighted if you want to bring someone in your care with you – but not anyone with mobility difficulties. We are also planning special activities downstairs during the week which will be wheelchair accessible and suitable for people with limited mobility.

Organised by Living Well Oxford and supported by a Wellcome Trust People Award, Ageing – From Birth and Beyond will offer practical advice and information on ageing and dementia as well as a special events & training upstairs.

Living Well Oxford is a project part-funded by Science Oxford, and supported by a Wellcome Trust People Award
