Big Bang to Big Band with Chris Lintott and Steve Pretty – tickets available on the door
From Patrick Moore’s love of the xylophone to Carl Sagan’s golden disc, astronomy and music have always been close but unlikely bedfellows. Building on this grand tradition, Oxford astronomer Chris Lintott (Sky at Night) and jazz musician Steve Pretty (Hackney Colliery Band) host an evening of improvised conversation and perhaps a little music in search of answers to the Universe’s big questions.
Steve Pretty is frontman for the critically-acclaimed Hackney Colliery Band, a 9 piece modern brass band playing rock, jazz, electronica and soul, who challenge what a ‘brass band’ can sound like. Steve also does solo work with many high-profile UK comedians including Robin Ince and has a love for science.
When Chris Lintott is not filming Sky at Night or Stargazing Live he can be found at the University of Oxford researching galaxy formation. He is also the brains behind Galaxy Zoo and the Zooniverse Citizen Science Projects. He likes listening to jazz music, but confesses he knows nothing about it.
