Get to grips with the basics of coding at our NEW 6-week coding course – a perfect introduction to the world of programming.

Learn how to use Micro:bits and Raspberry Pis – two of the most popular tiny programmable devices – and develop your coding confidence using the programming language Python. Learn to read programming documentation and join the community on the code development platform GitHub https://github.com/ and work on a project that interests you.

The course culminates in a Raspberry Jam meet-up, where course participants can share their coding experience, challenges and successes and showcase what they’ve made with the wider Raspberry Pi community.

Week 1: Exploration Week

Find out what your Micro:bit can do, test and explore its different functions and familiarise yourself with code.

Week 2: Communication Week

Teach your Micro:bit to exchange data with other Micro:bits, and send information back to your computer. Create a program to collect real world data such as air temperature or to connect up light sensors, ready for Week 3’s challenges.

Week 3: Data Week

Analyse some of the data you have collected with your Micro:bit. Using a Raspberry Pi computer, you will learn how to manipulate data in Python.

Week 4: Adventure Week

Learn how to work with other people’s code and improve and expand a Choose Your Own Adventure game. In preparation for the next couple of weeks, we will work with you to develop your project ideas so that you can apply your new skills to an area which interests you.

Week 5: Project Week

This week we will support you in making your project ideas a reality. You may wish to bring things with you, such as a laptop, documentation, or components or make use of our resources.

Week 6: Raspberry Jam Surgery

Hour one: This short surgery session provides the opportunity to beta-test your projects and get help fixing any bugs before the Raspberry Jam session.

Hour two: Raspberry Jam Evening Flavour At this meetup for Raspberry Pi enthusiasts, you will be able to share your new project with members of the Raspberry Pi community, meet new people and get ideas and inspiration for your next project. See separate event listing for more details (you do not need to book a space).
