Generous Playforce donates BIG prizes for Big Science Event 2019

Wednesday 7th November 2018

Playforce, UK specialists in creating and delivering play spaces and playground equipment, have announced that they are donating two top prizes of £1000 of play equipment to each of the schools who win our Oxon and Bucks Big Science Event 2019.

The Big Science Event is a competition for primary school pupils, which asks them to create their own science experiment or investigation, and present their findings to a panel of judges. The experiment can be on any topic and previous entries have included ‘What makes snails move?’ and ‘How much air does it take to pop a banana?’ The main aim of the competition is for the children to have fun with science while learning about the experimental process at the same time.

Playforce, which is celebrating its 20th birthday this year, has an equipment range from timber trails to shelters and multi-use games area to towers, and has been involved with the Big Science Event since 2012.

Sophie Batin, Science Oxford outreach manager says, “Playforce has been a valuable partner and we are really delighted that the team has agreed to support the Big Science Event again with this very generous donation.”

Marketing Executive at Playforce Claire Thew added, “We love getting involved in the Big Science Events as it gives us an opportunity to explore amazing new ways of taking science into the playground and to see exactly the type of experiments and creative learning that children across the UK love. It’s incredible to see the investigations they design and it’s inspiring to see how schools are incorporating outdoor learning into their STEM subjects.”

In 2018, over 11,000 pupils from 80 schools across Oxon and Bucks took part in the competition and entries for the 2019 competition are now open. To find out more information go to
