Fall for beautiful woodland at next Stansfeld Park conservation day

Tuesday 11th September 2018

Gather your gloves and wellies this autumn and join our Oxford Conservation Volunteers (OCV) led Conservation Day on Sunday 23rd September.

Building work on our new Science Oxford Centre and Wood Centre for Innovation at Stansfeld Park has been continuing apace – there are now walls and a roof – and the woodland has welcomed new badger cubs and pond visitors over the summer. Now that the hottest months are over, it is time to focus on getting the wild spaces around site tidied up and ready for 2019! Run in partnership with the amazing OCV, we are working to rejuvenate the 15 acres of woodland, ponds and grassland at Stansfeld and create a fantastic space for primary school visitors and the local community to enjoy.

This month we are going to be cutting the grassland and further opening up the area to promote the growth of wildflowers next spring. Even if the weather turns cold, you’ll be kept warm scything the grass, lopping dead branches, raking the scrub and feeding the bonfire. We also have wildflower seeds to sow to give nature a helping hand so the more pairs of hands the better.

There’ll be hot drinks and biscuits to keep you going – bring a packed lunch if you plan to stay all day.

Join us onsite at 9:45am for a 10am start, finishing up around 4pm but please free to attend for as long as you can spare. Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for their safety. Please contact us if you have any queries; email [email protected] or call 01865 810012.
