Working with Community Groups

Science Oxford is dedicated to engaging local community groups in STEM learning (Science Technology, Engineering and Maths). We provide engaging and inclusive access to STEM topics through a programme of bespoke activity days for community groups, including activity days in the community and at the Science Oxford Centre.

Planning an activity day with us

We work in collaboration with individual community groups to design an activity day to suit you and your group around STEM themes. Given the Science Oxford Centre’s unique setting in 15 acres of woodlands, we also try and utilise our connection to nature in our activity days.

Activity Days held at the Science Oxford Centre

Berkshire Vision

Families from Berkshire Vision spent the day at the Science Oxford Centre exploring the 15 acres of woodland and identifying plants and animals they found.

Wood Farm Cinema

We organised a family cinema showing in the theatre at the Science Oxford Centre for the local Wood Farm community. Proceeds from the event went to Wood Farm Youth Centre. Funded by Bold Futures, made possible by ASDC, Museums Association, The Liminal Space and Wellcome.

Parasol Projects

We organised a woodland and coding day at the Science Oxford Centre for Parasol Projects to show how technology can be used in nature to monitor the woodlands.

Activity Days held in the community

Be Free Young Carers

We organised STEM activities in the community to provide respite for Be Free Young Carers across Oxfordshire.

Library Tour

Over the summer holidays, Science Oxford ran STEM-focused shows in eight libraries across central and rural Oxfordshire for local families.

Science Club in Barton

In the Autumn term, Science Oxford ran a series of six after school science clubs in Barton exploring science topics for primary- aged children.

Young people really engaged with coding and the project – with the freedom to self-explore the science area and woodlands. The fact that all young people were engaged nearly all the time suggests how they were thinking about science and learning differently.

Staff, Parasol Projects

Incredibly grateful for all the space and activities. You have helped so many families in the #costoflivingcrisis and the children were very much engaged. A clear space to think, learn and build young minds. Thank you.

Parent, Oxford Community Action Activity Day

I've really got to admire how informative and engaging the day was. I'm usually not interested in science and IT at all, and I was hooked the whole day.
