Volunteers wanted to help at Templars Square dementia events

Wednesday 26th April 2017

Are you interested in ageing and dementia and the science of getting older? Are you interested in volunteering at a unique Oxford event that promises to offer practical advice and information on ageing and dementia to members of the public through hands-on activities, healthy mind and body workshops plus lots more?

Ageing: From Birth and Beyond is a series of events this May which explore all aspects of how your brain and body change as you get older and show you how to stay healthy as you age? The events will take place at Templars Square Shopping Centre, Cowley, Oxford as part of Dementia Awareness Week 15th-21st May 2017. There’ll be drop-in information sessions, stalls, exercise workshops and even a couple of choirs.

The project has been developed by Living Well Oxford (which is part-funded by Science Oxford) and is supported by a Wellcome Trust People Award. Lots of Oxford organisations are involved and there are some entertaining activities to enjoy – such as the ‘Total Lung Capacity Challenge’ and a talk about the health benefits of spices.

We are looking for volunteers to help make this exciting project happen – to help set up stalls, welcome visitors, make the teas and to guide guests and visitors through the exhibition. You can come and help for an hour, a morning or a day and don’t need any previous experience as project manager Susan Brumpton will be on hand to show you what needs doing.

We just need your enthusiasm and a few hours of your time. In return there’ll be free tea, coffee and cake for all volunteers, plus the chance to go all the various activities.
