About the session:

The Thinking, Doing, Talking Science programme empowers teachers to design challenging, thought-provoking science lessons that promote higher-order thinking. A core element of the approach is developing pupils’ oracy—their ability to talk, reason, and reflect as young scientists.

This taster session introduces practical strategies from the Thinking, Doing, Talking Science approach, suitable for all primary age groups and adaptable to any science curriculum.

Participants will:

  • Explore a range of Bright Ideas discussion starters to spark scientific thinking
  • Learn how to embed Bright Ideas Time into their own teaching to strengthen pupils’ oracy and reasoning skills.

The Thinking, Doing, Talking Science pedagogy was co-created by Science Oxford in partnership with Oxford Brookes University. Science Oxford continues to deliver Thinking, Doing, Talking Science courses in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Under an exclusive licence from The Oxford Trust, the Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT) is now the lead national partner for the ongoing delivery of Thinking, Doing, Talking Science courses in the rest of the UK.
