Super-weekend kicks off June events programme

Thursday 24th May 2018

They say that good things come in threes and we certainly support that theory, as we have a bumper weekend of activities coming up at the start of June that will please all the family.

On Saturday June 2nd we will be celebrating the wildlife of Oxfordshire at the BBOWT Oxford Festival of Nature Wild Fair. The Fair takes place at the Museum of Natural History and is part of a two-week programme of events that explore the usual and unusual creatures and plants that live and grow in and around the city. Our ecologist Roger will be there to talk about local animals and looking at what we can learn from studying their skulls.

Also on Saturday, we’re jumping on board the Hogwarts Express for a fantastical workshop which combines the wonders of JK Rowling’s magical world with hands-on science activities. There’ll be wand-making, potion mixing and even a bit of making objects ‘Wingardium Leviosa’. The workshop sessions have completely SOLD OUT, but we hope to run another series of this popular event later in the year, so watch this space.

However, don’t feel like you’ve missed out, as on Sunday 3rd June our team will be at Headington Festival. It’s going to be an arty affair as we’ll be holding an exhibition of photographs taken by local children as part of our Wildlife in your neighbourhood competition. We teamed up with Headington Action to run the competition, which aims to capture the wonderful wildlife living on our doorstep. The competition was for children aged 4-11 who live or go to school in and around Headington and the exhibition of our judges’ favourite photos will be on display on the Science Oxford stand. You can also have a go at some challenging maths puzzles with our new Science Oxford Centre manager, Mike Dennis who will be on hand to talk about how building work on the new centre is progressing.

So, if you get the chance, come and say hello at one of our super-weekend events and check out our What’s On page for more information on what’s coming up this June.
