Science Oxford Centre now open for bookings for summer term

Tuesday 14th January 2020

With visits from over 1200 pupils from 21 schools and fabulous reviews from both children and teachers, the Science Oxford Centre is now taking school bookings for the summer term.

In the spring and summer months the 15-acre woodland surrounding the Centre really comes into its own. As well as sessions in our Exploration Zone, theatre shows and indoor workshops, schools can book a Wild Walk exploration of our woodland. The one-hour walk takes groups through the varied habitats on-site – woods, grasslands and ponds. Children get the chance to investigate the outdoors with some challenging tasks – and teachers love hearing their thoughtful questions and comments as they discover something new, wriggly or slimy. While we can’t promise a sighting of our more elusive residents, the nocturnal badgers, Muntjac deer or even local resident cats.. a rummage in the vegetation or pond can turn up slugs, snails and woodlice, to more unusual creatures such as newts, dragonflies or even the fearsome devil’s coach horse beetle!

Our Outdoor Learning and Ecology Manager, Dr Roger Baker says “It’s a real privilege to lead the woodland walks – seeing the children’s excitement as they examine their finds and proudly show them off to each other is incredible and every walk is different.”

The Science Oxford Centre is the UK’s first indoor-outdoor science education centre specifically for early years and primary-aged children, their teachers, and families. Best of all, our wonderful woodland is private, so your class will be able to immerse themselves safely in the outdoor environment for a truly multi-sensory learning experience.

There are just a few slots available to book for visits this term, so don’t miss out – book early for your school summer visit.
