Science Oxford launches free skill sharing sessions for Presenters

Monday 30th July 2018

Calling all presenters! This September, Science Oxford will be opening its doors to a gathering of presenters from museums and universities, industry and education – anyone, in fact, actively involved in presenting.

Now a local hub leader for Oxford, we are excited to launch ‘Presenting 101‘ – our first training and skill sharing session for The Presenter Network – on Thursday 27th September 3pm-5pm at The Pod, Oxford Centre for Innovation. During this gathering, presenters will share their skills and successes, almighty mess-ups and top tips for handling unruly audiences. They’ll meet, they’ll chat, and together form a united support network.

Presenting 101 is a light-hearted audience-led workshop that aims to get you thinking about presenting, listening to other peoples’ experiences, and reflecting on your own skills and achievements. Structured with a series of tasks and activities, the workshop will encourage you to analyse and evaluate, and see what you can pull out of the bag.

Science Oxford has a long history of working with science performers to enhance their skills, learning, and opportunities, from organising the local and regional FameLab competition and science cabarets to the Big Science Event. But why stop at science presenters? We’d love to hear from anyone who is actively involved in presenting in museums, science and discovery centres, visitor centres, educational institutes, and more.

The Presenter Network Oxford hub is led by Rowena Fletcher Wood, Events Officer for Science Oxford, who said: “This new opportunity to join an international network of performers and communicators allows presenters from all kinds of backgrounds to mix, mingle and merge. I’m really looking forward to our first session, and can’t wait to meet fellow presenters from the area to hear about their experiences and ideas – it’s going to be the start of something really exciting for Oxford!”

The Presenter 101 workshop is free to attend to members of the The Presenter Network – book for the  workshop here

To become a member, please sign up to The Presenter Network here. The only requirement is that you are actively involved in presenting.

There are hubs across the UK united under the same Presenter Network Manifesto, but operating on a local level. The Royal Observatory Greenwich hub coordinates the network as a whole. Find our more about The Presenter Network Oxford hub here.
