Makers and shakers – New creative science clubs for young people

Wednesday 14th December 2016

We’re excited to be launching a new range of weekend science workshops for older children in 2017 that aims to tap into their creativity and provide an opportunity for those interested in science, technology and engineering to explore topics and their own projects in a friendly, supportive environment.

Our new Saturday Science Club Extra is for 9-12 year olds and uses fun topics and creative play to help them develop key skills that every future scientist, engineer and innovator might need, as well as (hopefully) getting them really enthusiastic about STEM subjects.

The first club — on Saturday 14th January – will see our budding scientists delve into the skills of scientific investigation. They’ll be developing their prediction, observation and enquiry skills as they explore the effects of heat on different materials before putting their learning to use to create a natural lip balm or a bar of soap to take home.

Maker Club is for young people aged 12+ who love to design and create; who enjoy tinkering with programming and electronics.  At Maker Club, our well- trained staff guide participants through techniques ranging from soldering and sewing to programming and paper craft. It’s a great opportunity for young people to explore their own STEM ideas and inventions while also taking advantage of the Science Oxford team’s equipment, space and expertise.
