Healthy ageing event in Cowley
How does your brain and body change as you get older and how do you stay healthy all that time? As part of Dementia Awareness Week 15th-21st May 2017 Oxford scientists will be part of an event on ageing and dementia in Templars Square Shopping Centre in Cowley, Oxford called – Ageing: From Birth and Beyond.
Organised by Living Well Oxford, a project part-funded by Science Oxford, and supported by a Wellcome Trust People Award, the event will offer practical advice and information on ageing and dementia as well as a chance to understand more about the science behind getting older. The event will include hands-on activities, the chance to try workshops designed to keep your mind & body active & healthy and special offers from fashion & beauty retailers on how to change your style as you age.
Owen Acland, Centre Manger at Templars Square Shopping Centre says, “This is a fantastic opportunity for our staff and visitors. We want Templars Square Shopping Centre to become a dementia champion, an example of how a retail community can work together to be dementia friendly and support our older customers.”
Our bodies change, develop and age in different ways throughout our lives, not only in our later years, so we will have content on ageing from different perspectives, and will include a variety of activities which will appeal to a range of ages. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025 and scientists now predict 1 in 5 people will live to over 100.
So if you know someone with dementia or you want to know how to live well yourself, then drop in on Templars Square Shopping Centre, Cowley between Mon 15th and Sun 21st May or check out the Living Well Facebook page for details of talks, advice sessions and workshops.
