Time-travelling back thousands of years to the banks of the Nile, our Egyptologists will puzzle out a hieroglyphic code and inscribe a cartouche with their name, a good luck amulet to protect them from evil spirits. Using air-drying clay, they’ll also design, mould and create a character for their very own Shabti dolls – used in the ancient world to populate burial tombs and guide the deceased into the underworld. An engaging workshop that combines history, hieroglyphics and lots of creative fun.

Maker Club Junior sessions must be accompanied by an adult.

Science Oxford welcomes all children to our clubs. If you or your child has additional needs, please get in touch on [email protected] to discuss how we can best support your child to make the most of the club.

Science Oxford is committed to inclusion and we recognise that cost is sometimes a barrier. Funded places for eligible families are now available, thanks to the Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust. Families could be eligible for these places for several reasons; for example, if your child receives free school meals or is a looked-after child. To find out more and to book one of these places, please contact [email protected].

This event is part of a partnership between Science Oxford and the Abingdon Science Partnership to bring science-themed activities to wider audiences across the region.
