‘Space’ is the limit as Young Technologists log-on to our festive session and learn intergalactic new programming skills, and even send a message to astronauts on the International Space Station!

Working on a range of programming projects they can create a 3D snowman using Tinkercad Codeblocks and get micro:bit savvy testing out activities on the online simulator. That’s not all, our Technology leader Sarah will guide the group to write code in Python for the Astro Pi project, so their code can be run on the International Space Station – for real! We can’t think of a better holiday treat than that. What a star!

This day-long holiday club will take place virtually. Please read through the information sheet before booking a ticket for your child here OnlineClubSafetyAgreement

What you will need:
You will need an internet connected device to take part in the session. We recommend a laptop, but activities should be possible to complete using a tablet – please get in touch if you want to discuss the requirements: [email protected]

You don’t need a BBC micro:bit to take part but if you would like to work on one at home you could borrow one from Oxfordshire libraries (you must reserve your micro:bit in advance) or you can buy your own – Sarah recommends Kitronik https://kitronik.co.uk/collections/microbit-and-accessories/products/5615-bbc-microbit-starter-kit

Online Sessions:
09:00-17:30 split up as follows:
09:00-11:00 = activity 1
11:00-11:30 = break
11:30-13:30 = activity 2
13:30-14:30 = lunch break
14:30-16:30 = activity 3
16:30-17:00 = break
17:00-17:30 = showcase (parents encouraged to attend)

Science Oxford welcomes all children to our clubs. If you or your child has additional needs, please get in touch to discuss how we can best support your child to make the most of the club.

We are committed to inclusion and we recognise that cost is sometimes a barrier. Funded places for eligible families are now available, thanks to the Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust. Families could be eligible for these places for several reasons; for example, if your child receives free school meals or is a looked-after child.
