Schools celebrate International Women In Engineering Day 2018

International Women in Engineering Day, on 23rd June, is a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of female engineers. Shockingly, only 11% of engineers in the UK are female, which shows how important it is to show young women the exciting range of opportunities engineering can offer. International Women in Engineering Day is an international awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and celebrates the outstanding achievements of women engineers throughout the world.

Here’s how schools can get involved! If you are a teacher and planning a lesson for Women in Engineering Day, you might want to check out some of our favourite ideas and resources. The 2018 theme is ‘Raising The Bar’.

• Your class could enter the competition to draw an engineer here. It’s a simple idea to get your students talking about what an engineer looks like and could give you a great springboard addressing some misconceptions. There are even prizes too!
• Why not get in touch with our local STEM Ambassador hub by emailing [email protected] to contact local engineers who could visit your school for free?
• We love the video library at www.inwed.org.uk for short films to inspire your class.
