We believe that hard work, commitment and achievement in science should be recognised. That’s why we run the Young Scientists of the Year celebration, which honours some of our most outstanding Year 13 science students in secondary schools across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Young Scientists of the Year 2024

When: 21st November 2024

Where: Science Oxford Centre, Headington, OX3 8SB

Teachers can nominate up to three students based on a number of criteria:
• Enthusiasm and commitment to a subject
• Going above and beyond i.e. mentoring another student
• Being creative in their approach
• Progress made during their A-Level course (or equivalent)
• Overall excellence

Past Events

The Young Scientists of the Year 2023 were honoured in a memorable evening on 16th November, filled with inspiration, recognition and a celebration of scientific excellence. Along with awards and recognition of the young scientists, highlights of the evening included talks from STEM industry experts, who shared their valuable insights and experiences of their own STEM journeys; showcases of the latest advancements, breakthroughs and innovations in STEM disciplines; and networking with experts, educators and other young scientists while exploring the Science Oxford Centre. The Young Scientists of the Year 2022 was held in-person on 16 November at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, supported by the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, the Science and Technology Facilities Council, UK Research and Innovation and Bentley Motors. Teachers from over 30 schools across the two counties nominated nearly 60 students, describing them as committed, determined, hard-working, resilient, talented, enthusiastic, passionate, curious, supportive, and encouraging, and highlighted a strong foundation of talent in young people about to embark on STEM careers.
