Fabulous feedback from schools
Friday 6th September 2019
The education team at Science Oxford has been kept busy over the past few months, making sure that our new Science Oxford Centre is ready to go for visits from primary schools across Oxfordshire and Bucks. So far we’ve welcomed over 1400 children (aged 3-11), from 51 primary school classes, to the centre and they’ve been testing out the Exploration Zone, our woodland walks and the exciting new programme of shows and workshops. They’ve played, investigated and explored – and been questioned by our experienced staff, as well as the adults they brought along with them.
We’re glad to say that the feedback from all our visitors so far has been very positive and teachers are really acknowledging and appreciating the ethos of the centre – that all of our activities are designed to build scientific skills and develop children’s higher order thinking.
“An inspirational day! Lots of thinking, doing and having fun. The children were challenged to explain their thinking and discuss their ideas. The organisation of the centre has been amazing. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the children feel they can approach them to ask questions. We like the way the staff don’t just give answers but ask the children age-appropriate questions to get the children to think more deeply.” – Teacher, North Marston Primary School
The team has also had lots to learn from our visitors too! From the Early Years group that tested bouncy balls on the turntable to the Year 6 pupils who built a marble run that spanned all three magnetic boards, we’ve been amazed by the creative and thoughtful ways that children have interacted with all of the exhibits in the Exploration Zone.
“Fantastic! I loved all the opportunities on offer for the children – it focused on so many aspects of child development and the Early Years curriculum. It was great for all abilities as it focused on skills with lots of outcomes. We had an amazing time. Thank you so much!” – Teacher, North Marston Primary School
