Teachers inspired at Oxfordshire Primary Science Conference 2026

Tuesday 7th July 2026

Local primary teachers came together at the Science Oxford Centre on 6th July for the annual Oxfordshire Primary Science Conference, a day dedicated to sharing expertise, exploring new approaches to teaching and learning, and celebrating the vital role of science in primary education.

The conference welcomed over 50 teachers eager to discover practical strategies, fresh ideas, and new resources to enhance science provision in their schools. Throughout the day, participants heard from a diverse line-up of expert speakers and took part in hands-on workshops designed to support high-quality teaching in the classroom.

A day of ideas, learning and connection

The programme combined keynote presentations, interactive workshops, a vibrant marketplace and networking opportunities, creating space for teachers to learn from specialists, share experiences with peers, connect with education providers and explore new resources.

Sessions focused on a range of topics relevant to today’s primary classroom, including crafting engaging lessons using oracy and drama; planning purposeful practicals; using micro:bit technology to support digital learning; connecting the classroom with real research using citizen science; and using the outdoors as a powerful science classroom.

“All the teachers who joined us had the opportunity to think creatively about how they could embed science across their curriculums creating as many opportunities as possible to inspire curiosity in the pupils they work with,” said Emma Pughe, Training and Development Lead, The Oxford Trust.

Supporting primary science education

“The Oxfordshire Primary Science Conference forms part of Science Oxford’s ongoing commitment to supporting teachers and enriching science education across our region. By bringing together expert speakers, practical workshops and opportunities for professional discussion, the conference continues to play an important role helping schools deliver engaging, high-quality science lessons for young learners,” said Francesca MacLennan, Director of Science Education and Engagement, The Oxford Trust.

Lasting impact

Throughout the day, it was evident how much passion primary teachers bring to science education. As participants return to schools, they take with them new ideas, renewed enthusiasm and valuable connections that will have lasting impact.

Teachers said:

I was really inspired to attend the conference today because there is a wealth of speakers attending and loads of real-world practical workshops that I can take ideas from directly back to my classroom.
Coming to the conference is really useful order to network with other people. I belong to quite a big Trust, and even though we network within it, coming here and networking with others is really beneficial to get new ideas and new resources.
