Celebrating World Bee Day
World Bee Day on 20th May is the opportunity to celebrate the wonderful world of bees! It is also a day to raise awareness of the importance of bees and other pollinators, which are crucial for our food production, conserving biodiversity, the survival of ecosystems, and the health of the planet.
Did you know that bees help pollinate nearly a third of the all food we eat and that nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend, entirely, or at least in part, on animal pollination?
But, bees and other pollinators, such as butterflies, bats and hummingbirds, are increasingly under threat from human activities. To raise awareness of this threat and to help improve the protection of bees and other pollinators, the United Nations designated 20th May as World Bee Day.
Did you know there are about 25,000 types of bee in the world? Would you like to find out more facts about bees? Visit Buzz About Bees for some interesting facts!
