Mary Anning - a fossil hunter's story (short film)
We love the new resources available for free from The Association for Science Education (ASE). Sea Dragon is an award-winning short film that tells the incredible story of Mary Anning and sets the scene for a series of enquiry-based activities. A brilliant blend of science and history makes this resource perfect for cross-curricular teaching and all the activities have been extensively tested to ensure that they are easy to use in the classroom.
Each suggested activity and enquiry is accompanied by resources for the children to use and in-depth teacher notes, which means that you and your class can explore together the lives, ideas and events that were significant in the development of scientific ideas and thinking in the 19th century.
We particularly like that the resources prompt discussion and questioning in the classroom – we know from our own Thinking, Doing, Talking Science project just how important this is for children’s learning!
