Design student bookmarked for success

Thursday 22nd August 2019

See the world differently? Science Oxford does. We employed an A level arts student to get a fresh new look and design a range of fun, eye-catching bookmarks to spread the word about our new Science Oxford Centre at Stansfeld Park in Headington, Oxford, this autumn.

Sam Pennink, an Oxford-based student who recently aced his A levels and is off to study graphic design at the London College of Communication next year (congrats, Sam!), was asked to come up with an original design, one that would promote the ethos of our new science education centre and get primary-aged school children excited about science and the natural world. His brief was to think about looking, exploring, discovery and play – and Seeing the World Differently; And he did!

He said he was inspired by the world around him: Sam lives close to the RSPB reserve at Otmoor, just outside Oxford, but he also likes vibrant colours in his designs.

We’ve now got a series of brightly-coloured bookmarks with different pairs of eyes – those of a badger, owl and human… Blink and they’ll all be gone as they are proving really popular! We love our new bookmarks, thank you, Sam – and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the centre soon.

The Science Oxford Centre is open to the public every other Saturday from 14th September. Book a family visit here.
