British Science Week 2019

Tuesday 5th March 2019

The Science Oxford outreach team is about to begin an epic journey to primary schools across the region as part of British Science Week (BSW). Eight members of our team will be heading off in the Science Oxford van to deliver inspiring hands-on science outreach activities, shows and workshops in schools across the region over the next four weeks.

BSW, which runs from 8-17th March, is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths and features events across the UK and online, including a virtual Run with the Ancestors game and the opportunity to become a citizen scientist as part of Operation Weather Rescue.

During our tour around Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, we‘ll be presenting Science of Magic shows, Science of Sound workshops plus a whole range of activities themed around topics like forces, invention and computer coding.

Andy Kensley, our Head of Education, says, “In British Science Week itself we are visiting 20 schools to run 70 workshops, shows and assemblies. We’ll also be running our regular Saturday Computing Coding Club and Maker Club sessions – it’s going to be busy, but we’re really looking forward to getting out there and encouraging children to try something new!”

You can find out more about BSW here and hopefully we’ll be coming to a school near you very soon.
