All primary teachers in schools across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire are eligible to attend.
The course:
These year group-specific CPD sessions are designed to provide you with the knowledge and strategies necessary to deliver high-quality science teaching. The programme comprises two focused sessions: “Enhancing Science” in the Autumn term, aimed at establishing a strong foundation for the academic year, and “Reviewing Science” in the Summer term, offering a structured opportunity for reflection and professional dialogue with colleagues working within the same year group.

Part one: Enhancing science in your year
Part one of the two sessions took place over the autumn term 2025. You do not need to have attended the first session in order to participate in the second session.
Part two: Reviewing science in your year
Dates:
- Reviewing Science in Year 1 : 22nd June 10.00am – 12.30pm
- Reviewing Science in Year 2 : 22nd June 1.30pm – 4.00pm
- Reviewing Science in Year 3: 29th June 10.00am – 12.30pm
- Reviewing Science in Year 4: 29th June 1.30pm – 4.00pm
- Reviewing Science in Year 5: 13th July 10:00am – 12.30pm
- Reviewing Science in Year 6: 13th July 1:30pm – 4.00pm
Attending a moderation meeting helps teachers build confidence in planning lessons that meet the expected outcomes, ensuring consistency and quality in primary science education for all children. Collaborating with colleagues from other schools offers valuable opportunities to share best practices, gather new ideas, and explore diverse teaching and learning approaches.
By participating, you will be able to:
- Deepen your understanding of the progression of scientific knowledge and skills in your year
- Identify whether curriculum content has been fully covered and spot any gaps
- Gain inspiration from a variety of effective teaching strategies and approaches
This session supports teachers in delivering a well-rounded, confident science curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.
