Thinking, Doing, Talking Science taster
October 13, 2025
Time: 3:45 – 4:45pm
Online (via Zoom)
Cost: Free for all primary teachers from Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire
The session:
Thinking, Doing, Talking Science is an inclusive approach to teaching science, developing children’s scientific knowledge and enquiry skills through higher-order thinking. One of the key components of the Thinking, Doing, Talking Science approach is the Bright Ideas Time – a dedicated discussion slot to encourage children’s higher-order thinking at the start of science lessons.
We will:
- explore what we mean by higher-order thinking
- practise various discussion techniques from the Bright Ideas Time that encourage children to share their knowledge and express their thinking
reflect on how Bright Ideas Time can be used for elicitation and as evidence of progression
The Bright Ideas Time can be used alongside any primary science curriculum and scheme of work to develop pupil’s scientific knowledge and understanding as well as oracy skills
