Stansfeld Park

Supporting innovation and inspiring the next generation of scientists.

The Oxford Trust’s mission is to encourage the pursuit of science and enterprise across the region. As part of that mission we are about to embark on an exciting new project that aims to boost science education and give much-needed support to local entrepreneurs and enterprises working in science and technology.

We are planning to create a new science education centre and innovation centre for the Oxford region, set in 18-acres of woodland at Stansfeld Park in Oxford.

The science education centre will be the UK’s first such centre for primary-aged children to inspire learning about science and exploration of the natural world. The innovation centre will be home to a number of grow-on science innovation businesses. And for the community, there’ll be access to the woodland, a café and the theatre, and use of the facilities for local groups, such as forest schools.  Click on the boxes above to read more about the project and our exciting plans.

The Stansfeld Park Story

In January 2016 the Trust acquired the lease for the Stansfeld Outdoor Education Centre on Quarry Road in Headington. The 18-acre site’s history dates back to 1919 when it was bought by John Stansfeld, then the Rector of St Ebbe’s, to provide a country retreat for the urban poor of Oxford. He also invited children from an impoverished Birmingham parish to attend summer camps there. The site was later sold to Birmingham Education Authority who continued to run it as an outdoor education centre until the summer of 2014.

We’re now in the exciting position of being able to bring the Stansfeld Park site back to life. It’s a great opportunity to invest in the area and fulfil our aims of supporting innovation, enhancing science education resources and enthusing people of all ages about science and technology as well as creating a new space for the local community to enjoy.
