Our Plans

Science Oxford has been running high-quality schools outreach programmes for over thirty years for both primary and secondary-aged children.

Our schools team brings together people with expertise in teaching, science, workshop and show development and administration. The inventive and engaging programmes they deliver reach around 20,000 young people every year. We also support 350 teachers annually through a specialised CPD programme.

Now we plan to increase our impact and the number of young people we reach across Oxfordshire and the region by developing the UK’s first indoor-outdoor science education centre for primary-aged children, their teachers, and families at Stansfeld Park in Headington, Oxford.

Children will be able to enjoy a wide range of engaging science-themed activities. Within the centre, we will have an exciting discovery zone full of interactive exhibits, a bright and flexible teaching spaceand theatre. Outside, they will be able to explore our 15-acre wildspace – a mix of woodland, ponds and grassland that is perfect for learning about ecology and botany as well as the physical sciences. Here’s what will be on offer:

  • A science discovery zone with interactive STEM exhibits to encourage the development of enquiry-based learning, problem-solving and social skills.
  • A fully equipped teaching space delivering inspiring workshops for children and training for teachers.
  • A 15-acre urban wildspace with a mix of woodland, ponds and grasslands, this area will be used for a wide range of outdoor STEM learning sessions.
  • A 120-seat flexible theatre for shows, demonstrations and talks as well as an expanded workshop space and mobile planetarium.
  • A café for use by everyone, including the local community.

If you’d like to keep updated with the project you can sign up to our mailing list by completing the form at the bottom of this page.
