Who or what inspired you to follow your particular career path?

I've always admired the great physicists like Bohr and Rutherford but also enjoyed the theatre of great polymaths like Fry. Pure science felt too dry whereas combining it with an interaction with non-scientists as I get to do in sales seemed like a great opportunity. I trained in nuclear physics for UKAEA, then went off and spent a decade doing sales in Civil Engineering before bringing physics, engineering and sales together in a single role.

What advice would you give to any young person considering a STEM career?

Do things you like but also things you're good at. Don't just do art because you think it's easy unless you happen to love it or have a skill for it. Consider the sciences really carefully as there are great opportunities for good scientists particularly in Oxfordshire. Don't get off the education train too early as it's really hard to get back on later. Think of it like a games show where the further up the ladder you get, the greater the potential prize.
