Kit Loan
Suitable For: KS1, KS2

Our comprehensive microscopes kit contains everything your class needs to look closely at the world around them. Two dissecting microscopes, with lamps, allow children to observe living creatures they have collected as well as the different materials included in the kit. Samples in the kit link to lots of different national curriculum areas and children can also choose to look at things they’ve found in the classroom, the playground or at home – the kit includes petri dishes to hold these samples.

We’ve also provided two compound microscopes, which each give more magnification than the dissecting microscopes so that children can look even more closely at the specimens on the slides included in the kit. For the most enthusiastic, we’ve included equipment and instructions for creating your own slides from onion skin to look clearly at plant cell structures.

As well as the microscopes, lamps, slides and samples, the kit also contains equipment to collect and view minibeasts, including magnifying glasses, pooters, bug tongs and more. We’ve popped in some minibeast identification keys, to help children identify the creatures that they have found, and a teacher manual with labelled diagrams of the microscopes so you’ll be able to easily answer any questions.

There is also a digital microscope as part of the kit, which plugs into a USB port and can be used to show images on a computer screen or interactive whiteboard, for whole class activities. Lots of teachers have told us that they particularly like using this resource for starters and plenaries and that it’s great for encouraging discussion and higher order thinking.

Please note that this is a large kit, spread over three boxes, and it is likely that you will need to collect it by car.
