FAQs

  1. Why has my school been selected?

Your school has been chosen because at least 30% of your pupils are eligible for free school meals.* Although this is just one measure, we also recognise that increased free school meal numbers come with additional challenges that we can support.

*According to 2022 Government figures obtained from https://www.gov.uk/school-performance-tables.

  1. Who is Science Oxford?

Science Oxford is part of The Oxford Trust, a charity set up to encourage the pursuit of science.

Our schools’ programmes have been developed to inspire young people about STEM and to develop their knowledge and skills. We support schools in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire through our Science Oxford Centre visits, shows and workshops in schools, and via continuing professional development for teachers.

  1. Are there any other requirements for my school to access this funding?

Yes, to help us measure the impact of the funding, we will require you to support us in an evaluation process – we will ask your lead contact for approximately 20 minutes of their time, to complete a questionnaire both just before and just after your activity. This will help us to further provide free activities for schools.

  1. How long will this fund last?

This funding is to be used over 2022 –2024 academic years.

Here’s what teachers who have already benefitted from the Edina Trust funding have said:

"I’ve never seen my class so engaged and excited; they’ve all been able to join in, even those that kind of struggle a little bit in the classroom. They’ve all been able to join in and find something that they’ve enjoyed throughout the day."

Teacher, John Henry Newman Academy, 2022

"It was great to have the opportunity to review their light learning and address any misconceptions that have developed. The workshop on evolution fits perfectly into the where we currently are with our learning."

Teacher, Hill View Primary School, December 2021

"Staff were great; sessions were pitched well and they followed the children's ideas. They enabled the children to feel confident with their ideas."
